Key Policy

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought increased attention to something that we have known for years –
our communities need better access to affordable, quality healthcare.
This is not simply a matter of
increased awareness. The current pandemic is compounding the existing problems with new and ever-
shifting challenges. We need leadership with the vision and courage to support solutions that go beyond
the business-as-usual approach that led us to our current predicament. We deserve better!

As your representative I will fight for better healthcare like our lives depend upon it – because for many
members of our community, it does!
My approach toward better healthcare will focus upon the
Expanding Medicaid
According to the Georgia Budget & Policy Institute, Georgia has the highest uninsured rate in the country at a rate of 13.7 percent. Rates could climb to above 25 percent by 2026 in rural Georgia. Many residents of Georgia’s 138th House District struggle to afford access to healthcare. Expanding
Medicaid coverage will make a significant difference in the lives of those who have been left behind by
the current system. Expanding Medicaid will not solve all of the problems of access to quality
healthcare, but it is a first step that will make an immediate impact for many families in our
Finding Ways to Make Healthcare More Accessible
Grandparents who live on fixed incomes struggle to afford the rising costs of healthcare, while parents
struggle to get their children the treatment they desperately need. The location, cost, and quality of care
are persistent barriers to the health and well-being of our communities. In addition to Medicaid
expansion, I support a comprehensive examination of our current healthcare coverage, systems, and
providers. I will ensure that quality healthcare is affordable, improve care in under served
communities, and work with our healthcare providers to identify and remove barriers to access.
